When one country invades another and attempts to draft its young men, there will always be some who resist, believing the war is immoral. During the Vietnam War, some of these young men, including the author, joined the Peace Corps. In this memoir, he describes his experiences as a Peace Corps civil engineer in an area off-limits to American soldiers; an area where, as he came to realize, American Intelligence didn't want him. As he chronicles these experiences and makes suggestions for a post pandemic Peace Corps, he hopes the information he gleaned both first-hand and after doing a great deal of research, can serve as a resource for those who even now are wondering what purpose ideological wars of attrition serve, whether the Peace Corps or similar volunteer agencies of peace should be an alternatives to military service, whether the Peace Corps is viable on its own merits, and/or whether it could be more viable with some changes.
