The Journey: Defying Cancer with Grace, Grit & Gratitude

It started with one cancer diagnosis and one Facebook post. It evolved into a story followed by hundreds. Brian Wieber refused to give his diagnosis power. He chose instead to live BIG in spite of it, and never say, “Why me?” His path through cancer was fueled by positivity, constant prayer, and faith in the face of fear. Brian’s “I got this” attitude created a ripple effect, first with friends and family, and eventually with much of his wider community. When the end of Brian’s life was close, he began to recognize the impact his story was having, and hoped it would one day be shared with a wider audience and impact others. The Journey chronicles Brian’s years of living with cancer in constant gratitude for the life he continued to celebrate. Archived social media posts, combined with reflections by his wife, tell the entire story, beyond the one they carefully crafted for social media. Brian lived, traveled, golfed, adventured, hiked, worked, fished, laughed, gave, loved, and thanked while he battled. He defied his cancer through hospitalizations, surgeries, chemo treatments, tests, and side effects. He never, ever quit or lost hope that he would one day get his miracle. Brian’s story is first and foremost a memoir. It’s also a love letter to him, and to cancer warriors, survivors, caregivers, and widows. Beyond that, it’s a heartfelt thank-you note to those who choose to show up in support when life becomes unbelievably difficult for the people they love.
