The New You is a six week devotional through which Christians are able to discover new power and new peace by loking at themselves in the light of Christ who dwells in them. Christians often build their identity and value in the same way non-Christians do. They base it on possessions and accomplishments. They are often discouraged and depressed, looking at their sins and failures. They fail to see the infinite, unlimited power available to them through the indwelling presence of Christ. They do not rejoice in the fact that they are the residences of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. DeVries also points out in this book that when Christians lack the peace of knowing who they are in Christ, they also lack the power and the vision to tackle life's challenges and opportunities. The author uses several powerful metaphors to help the reader develop a true Biblical self-image of Christians, one of which, is the comparison between the White House and the house-museum at Mt. Vernon. DeVries was aided in the writing of this book by an "editorial committee" made up of two transformed ex-convicts and a woman who was horribly abused as a child. The book is primarily designed for family or private devotions. It can also be used as an excellent six-week small group study.After each devotion there are memory verses and a set of discussion questions called "Learn it" and "Do it".
