The purpose of this book is to paint a portrait of the Korean War as seen through the eyes of my Father, Sergeant First Class Clarence Rathel, who fought on the front lines in World War II and the Korean War. I was fortunate to have the story of his life and the battles he lived recorded on tapes before he passed away in 1989. Inspired by what he said in the recordings, I began researching his fighting in World War II and the Korean War. Captivated by the accuracy of his journey, it became my passion to pass his story to present and future generations. In the first book, “My Father, Sergeant Rathel, American Soldier,” I covered his journey with the 77th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater of World War II through his battles in Guam, Leyte, Ie Shima, and the Kerama Islands. In the second book, “The Bloody Perils of War, World War II, Okinawa,” I covered his journey with the 77th Infantry Division in the Battle of Okinawa, considered by many historians as the bloodiest battle in the Pacific Campaign of World War II. That book ended with the occupation of Japan led by the United States Armed Forces. This book begins where book two ended.
