This story is born from the meeting halls, smoke-filled theaters, and bustling saloons of the American West at the turn of the twentieth century. In 1898, a group of theater owners in Seattle came together to resolve a musicians’ strike. What began as a business truce soon grew into something larger: a brotherhood of working men who believed in justice, equality, and the uplifting power of fellowship. They called themselves the Fraternal Order of Eagles. From those first nights of handshakes and shared songs in Seattle, the Order spread quickly along the Pacific coast and beyond. By 1904, their motto of “Liberty, Truth, Justice, and Equality” had traveled south through California, finding a new home in towns like Folsom. It was here that the values of friendship and service took root among miners, merchants, and musicians who longed for community in a restless and rapidly changing world. The tale that follows is a fictional account inspired by the real spirit of those early years. While the characters and their personal journeys are creations of imagination, the backdrop—the birth of the Eagles, their westward spread, and the cultural landscape of 1898 to 1904—is drawn from history. This blending of fact and fiction is meant not only to entertain, but to honor the vision of the men who believed that ordinary people, standing together, could accomplish extraordinary things.
