This is the story of Mr. Behrendt Fiskit, a Norwegian immigrant who, along with his family, landed in Baltimore in 1939 and set down roots in “Pigtown,” a blue-collar neighborhood geographically described as Southwest Baltimore. En route on his twenty-plus-year journey to manhood, Behrendt discovers one of the hard facts of life in America in the 1950s: the rules are designed to protect the wealthy and powerful. He also discovers that within this hard-knocks, sometimes crazy, quirkiest of neighborhoods, there exists an alternate code of acceptable behavior codified in the unwritten “Rulebook of Pigtown.” Jam-packed with emotion, humor, ingenuity, and yes, sex, this book will take the reader on a roller coaster ride that begs the question: Just what are the rules? The story is fiction, but Pigtown is a real place and the characters are based on real people. You can visit it today, and even watch the annual pig race down Ostend Street.
