THE SCENT OF MAGIC: Notes on connection, intimacy, and love.

Most magicians perform amazing effects. Many magicians are also funny. A saying among magicians goes, "Magic doesn't need anything else; there is no need to add things to magic because magic is complete by itself." I believe it's not a matter of "adding" things to magic. Over the years, a lot has been taken and pruned from magic. It's time to give back to magic all of what belongs to it. Magic needs literature, music, and everything else. Not because the tricks aren't enough, but because the tricks are not all of what magic has to offer. Most magicians perform. Some of them are admirable. But performance and admiration are the enemies of connection. A relationship based on performing and admiring cannot be based on connection, intimacy, or love. These notes are about connecting through magic. I strive to offer my audiences an experience, a journey, in which we co-create a playground to explore the mysterious together. These notes are about the magic instant, which is non-existent in most magic shows. About silence, pauses, and the humility to inhabit the uncertainty and abandon the attitude of entitlement and ownership of magic. And about love.
