This photo book consists of 6 chapters of my first hand account. Up close and personal, with both predators and prey within the game parks of Africa. It is filled with hair raising high resolution photographs of animals within their natural habitat and highlights of South Africa such as the Three Rondavels, the majestic Bourke’s Luck Potholes amongst others and the African gastronomical scene.
The first chapter is titled Ataraxy. It features various animals in states of serendipity. Despite squinting through my lens at what many would consider a “ferocious predator”, it’s stillness made me realise I was looking into the piercing golden eyes of a creature sharing god’s creation and not a savage beast.
The second chapter, Huntian, freezes frames of various apex predators and their dilated pupils, moments before taking the lethal pounce which would inevitably tip the delicate balance of life and death towards its final inescapable conclusion.
The third chapter, Camaraderie, uncovers unlikely friendships amongst the animal kingdom and the mutual respect they share for each other despite not speaking the same language or originating from totally different species.
The fourth chapter (Maternology) stirred a multitude of emotions within me as I witnessed the protective flames of the maternal instinct and its self sacrificial nature which awakens at the softest of cries or the slightest hint of need from its young. I discovered that not only was it a love but, it was her legacy that will echo through the ages long after the world has forgotten her name.
The fifth chapter, Monochromatic, features black and white photographs not only revealing my emotions but also drawing out the soul of the subject, baring its raw essence.
Finally, the book concludes with a chapter featuring African culture such as unctuous gastronomical delights and key landmarks in and around South Africa.
