The Traveler is another enriching story from bestselling Georgia author, Peggy Mercer about a man named Mailkhan Sharon and two characters from the Big Daddy Island books, set on the Georgia coast, on a mission to save animals. The setting is Big Daddy Island, beloved to readers throughout the USA and the world, and one of the last remaining unspoiled white sand beaches and sprawling marshlands in the United States. Characters Alona Lois and Mercedes, and visitor "interloper" who is being followed by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Malik, find themselves driving a red Ford truck upstate, to a historic locale called Ebenezer Creek where they will find the animals Malik believes is his mission on earth. Love of one another and a strange liking of the visitor, Malik, develops as they make stops at a store, eat at a restaurant at Shellman Bluff and then wind their way north. Sense of humor is present as well as vivid descriptions of Georgia and the highway known as SR 99 and georgraphy of the fields and at last, bald cypress swamps where the climax of the story unfolds. Malik is a God-sent man and the mission he has created is God driven. He promises the ladies to tell them of a great secret of love. Of animals created by our Father in Heaven and what happens to them. Alona Lois and Mercedes realize that Malik has an uncanny resemblance to Alona Lois's late husband and Mercedes's best friend and that he might very well be raised from the grave for this trip. Humor, Bible quotes, inspiratioin for finding purpose and guidance in relationship to God's creatures, whom are so loved by these three people, fit the story like wellw orn gloves and the story is strengthened by the author's lovely lyrical, Georgia born and raised country style writing. Peggy Mercer has won awards, traveled the nation giving speeches and teaching writing classes and knows how to pull a heartstring or two. She is at her best in the Traveler, and no, she did not write this summary, you will need to not put this down!
