The Two Dollar Egg: And other cogitations and ruminations

I suppose most of these literary specimens fall roughly into a category that the editors used to call “think pieces” but the reporters referred to as “thumb-suckers” or “navel gazers”. I write lots of things. This book consists of material drawn primarily from articles previously published in the magazine “Our Brown County” and on-air editorials broadcast on WFHB’s “Brown County Hour”. from 2007 to 2023. In high school, I was the sports writer for the local newspaper, which eventually led, by various twists and turns, to a career in journalism, back when we still had newspapers, and they still had reporters (who got paid!). Those were the days! An old friend of mine started a local magazine, Our Brown County, and she put me in the regular rotation, writing various stories about Brown County, Indiana, including recollections of growing up here, and the history and culture of the place. I have opinions about things, and I have always been inclined to air those opinions. These days, I do a lot of ruminating and cogitating in public, writing short pieces and volunteering to read my little monologues (rants is such a harsh word) on the local public radio program “The Brown County Hour”. Also, I am in the process of writing several novels that I’ve always been meaning to write, and surely one of those will be the next Great American Novel, but in the meantime, I write different things. It’s my hobby. Now, in my retirement years, one of my hobbies is to collect up these writings into little books. What a time to be alive! I sincerely hope that something in here will make you smile, make you think, maybe make you care.
