Description

The Yarn of the Mitten is a historical novel about Michigan's early settlers. It begins with a group of immigrants entering the Part of Detroit, follows them through a second generation, the Civil War and the logging era. In our promotional literature (postcards) we describe it as giving history "a profoundly human face. It begins in 1837 when Ganus and Mina Michealovic step off the lake steamer Chippewa at the port of Detroit and builds to a trial which pits loggers against homesteaders in the state's northern section and an equally poignant struggle between a young Michigander wearing Union blue and his friend from the hills of Tennessee wearing Confederate grey."
