With discussions about Statement of Faith changes and Roles of women in ministry, this book provides background information, and not only what the Christian and Missionary Alliance believes, but why we believe it.
This book provides an overview or primer of the theology and hermeneutics (principles of interpretation) of The Christian and Missionary Alliance. Three tiers or levels of doctrinal importance are presented by founder A.B. Simpson and the early leaders of The Alliance: Essentials, Distinctives, and Open Questions. These classic doctrines and methods of interpretation provide a matrix for handling current C&MA theological issues.
What The Alliance believes falls into three different categories: 1) The essentials or non-negotiables of the Christian faith accepted by all Bible-believing Christians; 2) The Alliance Distinctives--the doctrines that make The Alliance "The Alliance"--the essentials for The Christian and Missionary Alliance, but not essentials for every believer. 3) Non-essentials, open questions, side issues, minor points--doctrinal issues and practices we can agree to disagree on in unified loving liberty.
Here is what other Alliance leaders are saying:
COMMENDATIONS
“This is worth doing, I taught Christian Doctrine this year, and this framework was very helpful in discussing theological positions.”—Alliance missionary and adjunct professor
“Three thumbs up”—Consecrated Woman in Ministry
“The Christian and Missionary Alliance and its hermeneutics is a vital subject.”—retired Alliance pastor
“I believe this would help a lot. Especially new people coming into the Alliance. It would benefit by being translated into some other languages like Spanish.”—pastor, New York City
“Helpful addition to Alliance material for ordination/consecration.”—Alliance associate pastor
“I think it would be great. I could see it being used to help with accreditation preparation.”—Former Licensing, Ordination, & Consecration Council member
“The worthiness of the endeavor is beyond question. We need this book. Years ago, I read the list of Systematic Theologies produced by different denominations in James Leo Garret's Systematic Theology, Volume 1. When he reached The Alliance, I was saddened to read that our offer was one book: Dr. George Pardington's Outline Studies in Christian Doctrine. A book that was from 1916!!! Maybe, from your book, Dr. King, someone (or even yourself!) will feel motivated to produce a Systematic Theology from the peculiar standpoint of the Christian and Missionary Alliance.”—Alliance worker, Puerto Rico
