Antoinetta Luisi (Nana) and Gaetano LaForgia, are two of the 3.8 million Italian-born immigrants who entered the United States between 1899 and 1924. They left their small village of Toritto, Italy for Ellis Island in 1908, and eventually married in December of 1919. Together they forged a strong family heritage based on good food and good stories. Bringing everyone to the table for one of Nana’s meals is a cherished family tradition for author and granddaughter, Regina Sullivan. Gathering these recipes from Regina’s mother, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins has brought the meals and memories to life again.
