Worship the Lord with Gladness: God’s Children in Worship would be designed to teach children about worship. Each lesson would be based upon a scripture verse or passage that the children would examine in detail. Activities, games, drama, role-play, reproducibles, and music would be incorporated into the lessons. Each lesson would provide an opportunity for the children to put into practice what they have learned. For example, if they study about the offering, they would have the opportunity to practice taking up the offering as ushers or giving their money. In addition, there would be a take-home sheet explaining the lesson and providing parents ideas for reinforcing the lesson at home. Each lesson would be outlined as follows: *Bible Praise Notes: Children would examine the scripture for the day. *Let’s Learn to Worship: Activities, games, drama, role play, reproducibles and music that would help the children learn about the particular worship theme. *We Worship God: This would be a time to put into practice what the children have learned. *My Family Helps Me Worship: Take-home ideas for worship in the home and reinforcing the lesson. Lessons: 1. Come, Let’s Worship God! What is worship? Children would examine worship in both the Old Testament and New Testament. This lesson will help children understand the concept of worship. Examples would be provided of different styles of worship that children might encounter in their own churches and different places persons might worship (in a sanctuary, in nature, at camp, etc.) 2. Come to the Water: Baptism 3. Come to the Table: Holy Communion (Children would be encouraged to serve Communion in their own congregation and ideas would be given to make this a reality. 4. Worship Leaders Help Us Praise God 5. Church Symbols Help Me Worship God 6. Music Helps Me Offer Praise to God: Children will learn about the importance of music in worship including some of great hymn writers, especially Charles Wesley. They will then sing some favorite hymns and praise songs. 7. One Service, Many Parts: Children would examine the various parts of the worship service including the singing, preaching, bulletin, offertory, and pastoral prayer. 8. One God, Many Ways to Worship: Children will examine the ways they can worship God today. Included will be a study of The Lord’s Prayer and ways children can pray. Children will also be taught about how to worship in the sanctuary with the congregation. Children will be invited and encouraged to use all of their senses when they worship. 9. We Worship and We Welcome: Children will learn ways their congregations practice hospitality toward others, especially visitors. They will explore ways they can extend radical hospitality such as offering to sit with a visitor child, offering a children’s worship bag, inviting a visiting child to Children’s Sermon time, walking with them to Sunday school or Children’s Worship and telling them about children’s activities. 10. I Have a Part in Worship: Ways children can serve in the worship service such as acolyte, scripture leader, sing in choir, etc. 11. Special Times of Worship: The Church Seasons 12. We Gather to Worship, We Leave to Serve: Children will explore ways they can take the important lessons learning in worship (sharing, caring, missions, etc.) and apply them to their everyday lives, especially at school. 13. Children Lead in Worship: Children plan and carry out a worship service for the congregation or their parents.
