Let’s start by clearing up the language: All human enterprise is directly related to human well-being. A company in a capitalist framework has as its goal making money for the owners and employees of the company. Money is a store of value and a medium of exchange, the purpose of which is to generate human well-being. If anyone doubts money’s ability to make them feel better they don’t want it. Human well-being is the goal. In order for a company to make money it must provide the perception of immediate value to its customer. A customer will generally spend their money in response to the question: “What purchase or investment will bring me the most well-being?” The more scarcity in the mindset, the more narrow and short-term will be the thinking.A non-profit, as with every other enterprise, aims to increase human well-being. However, it can afford to do so in ways that few individuals would prioritize for their next purchase. For example, planting trees is highly intelligent for the species over the next 1000 years. However, few people worried about rent, credit card debt or fixing their car will spend limited funds paying someone to plant trees for their children and grand-children’s future well-being. A competent “non-profit” is the most profitable enterprise for creating direct long-term well-being available, by side-stepping the mind-set of chronic scarcity to focus on long-term, higher yield activities that directly benefit human well-being.A 10 X non-profit is an enterprise directly aiming to generate as much sustainable human well-being possible with a given amount of energy (time, money and natural resources). When it generates 1000% more sustainable human well-being per unit of energy invested than the norm it is being compared to, it is a 10 X Non-Profit. As such it is the most successful and profitable enterprise on the planet.
