Mechanical joint pain, including low back pain, is not a “normal aging process.” Thirteen years as a therapist and my expectations are still high and my results show that patients should have limited pain and full movement in a relatively short period of time. Pain is fixable. Functional movement and increased activity and play are achievable at any age. It is a very simple concept: fix the mechanical joint dysfunction and then build trunk control and power to be less vulnerable. Along the way there must be education about the perception of pain, and recovery guidelines to monitor change. Yes, it takes practice to be able to actually fix the mechanical joint restrictions, but it is possible and necessary for resolving musculoskeletal pain. In this book I will walk you through how we move, the principles of neural control of movement, how mechanical joint dysfunction presents itself, how to fix it, and how to assure less vulnerability to mechanical joint dysfunction in the future. This book is intended for the curious and/or frustrated practitioner and any person still in pain searching for the answers.
