This is the first book of four, in the Maynard and Mildred book series [Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter]. This book is beautifully illustrated (in color) and shares fictional short stories of adventures as explored by Maynard and his invisible friend, Mildred. As best friends, they go on adventures. A boy by the name of Maynard. A girl, his imaginary friend, named Mildred. After moving several times, Maynard found it difficult making friends in school. His mother recognized his need for company, so she suggested he create an imaginary friend. Maynard had always wanted a sister. Before bed each night, he would visualize what his imaginary sister would look like. Blonde hair, ponytails, and a bouncy, exploratory personality. Together, Maynard and Mildred would explore life. Mildred was a bit of a troublemaker. Mildred would taunt and tease Maynard by creating unexpected situations he would need to figure out. Through these situations, Maynard would learn how to be more confident, trusting, understanding of consequences based on his decisions, life lessons, and appreciate alone time, to name a few. Each book is being produced into a short animation film. In this book, Maynard begins his story by moving, meeting Mildred, and from this, goes on adventures in the library, bowling alley, soda shop, movie theater, dinosaur museum, and walking through a cemetery. Puppet narrators Wilford, Deadward, and Crazy Melmo make appearances to enhance stories adding humor to put smiles on faces. Each book is illustrated and has eight stories. The colorful images bring the stories and characters to life. The Adventures of Maynard and Mildred book series is suitable for ages 6-12. Available in both hardcover and paperback. In a youth's development, imagination is the first introduction to their social development and creativity. Teens grow out of their imaginary friends by the age of 14 but never forget their special playmates.
