Best Interest of the Children aptly demonstrates the shortcomings of family courts in the 1970s and 80s and a father's struggle to stay relevant in his children's lives following divorce. This story is based on real events although names have been changed to maintain anonymity. Excerpt: There they were - Dennis, Jamie, and Jessica, in perfect formation, the tallest to the shortest, from left to right. Dennis was in his too-short Spiderman pajamas with his palms and face pressed to the glass. Jamie, in a light blue nightgown and uncombed hair, wore a big, bright smile. "Hi, Daddy," she mouthed cheerfully. Jessica, having recently taken her first step, sporting nothing but a diaper and a pot belly, sucked her thumb and waved a tiny paw. As my gaze went from one child to the next, then back again, the agony in my heart grew to its bursting point. Suddenly, Dennis stepped back from the glass, never taking his eyes off his father.
