The Salient features of this book are: It is comprehensive. It contains everything that you need to know to do well in the P Exam. It breaks the official SOA sample questions into small portions, introduces the tools needed for each portion, provides detailed explanation for the problems, and, for the first 319 SOA sample questions, follows up with a quiz (with detailed solutions) based on the relevant problems. At the end, I provide a comprehensive tool sheet for the entire exam, 2 full-length practice exams containing fresh problems and detailed solutions to these practice exams. Altogether, the quizzes and exams contain about 300 fresh problems which are similar to SOA problems and will provide excellent preparation for the actual P exam. It is concise and to the point. Despite being comprehensive, this book completely avoids all those details which may be good to know in general, but which are not really needed for the exam. My explanations are mathematically rigorous for the most part, but there are times when such rigor gets in the way of a quick, efficient, and easily understandable solution of a problem, and in that case, I always go for speed, efficiency, and easier understanding. It has a unique presentation style in that it is centered around the sequence of the official SOA sample questions. I start by briefly introducing the ideas needed to understand problems 1-16. Then I present very clear solutions to these problems. These solutions are easier to understand than any other solutions I have come across. I then follow up with a quiz (with detailed solutions) based on these problems. Every problem on the quiz is a serious practice for Exam level questions. The process is then repeated for the next set of few problems, and so on. This way, sometimes the same formulas are mentioned multiple times. Such repetition is a great way for a deeper understanding, effortless memorization, and convenient finding of the necessary tools. This is the only textbook I have come across which provides clear and detailed explanations for each of the 627 sample questions listed on the official SOA website. Hence, all together, the book contains detailed solutions for almost 100 problems. The explanations provided for the 627 official SOA problems synchronize with the videos of my YouTube channel titled: “Best Actuarial and Statistics Solutions” which contains, among other videos, explanation videos of all of these problems. This revised and updated edition of the book is in synchronization with the current SOA sample questions depicting the 2025 SOA Syllabi. I, the author of this book, am a tenured faculty of mathematics in USA. I got my PhD in mathematics from Purdue University. I am also the author of the book titled "Best Prep for SOA Exam FM". I played a major role in starting the Actuarial Science concentration in our Mathematics program, and then in getting it recognized by the SOA. Our university is one of the only 3 SOA UCAP accredited universities in Louisiana. We offer year-long prep courses for the P and FM exam, and I am the one who teaches both these sequences. The Exam P and FM success rate of students taking my courses has been extremely high. I am also the liaison between SOA and our university. Students may also be interested in knowing that I achieved a perfect score on Exam P when I took it some years ago. I have tried to capture all my successful experience and teaching techniques in this book.
