This is a detailed workbook for working the Twelve Steps of Overeaters Anonymous based on the directions for working the Twelve Steps found in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. It represents the consensus of many OA members who have used those directions, and who have collaborated on the writing of this volume. It represents a practical method of finding recovery from compulsive eating and compulsive food behaviors through the Twelve Steps of Overeaters Anonymous. This workbook contains reading assignments from the Big Book followed by explanations of how to take action to apply those readings to working the Twelve Steps in OA; the intention is to show how to use the directions not only for a one-substance addiction like alcoholism, but also for an addiction that encompasses a spectrum of compulsive eating issues; and not only for people who have done harm to others, but also for people who have had harm done to them. This workbook can be used by an individual or by groups. It is sold on a non-profit basis, as Twelfth Step Service. It is not OA-Approved Literature. Its authors do not consider it to be literature, but rather writings expressing experience, strength, and hope. A PDF version for free reproduction is available to any groups, intergroups, or regions, within Overeaters Anonymous, for use as Local Literature, or by the World Service Business Conference.
