Bookkeeping Simulation Workbook: DeCre Food Truck, LLC - 9334

Bookkeeping profession is undergoing a drastic transformation as government and private reporting requirements become increasingly stringent and large numbers of senior bookkeeping professionals decide to retire. The demand for high quality bookkeepers is on the rise. Interviewing and hiring candidates for bookkeeping and accounting positions requires a very thorough understanding of candidates’ level of bookkeeping skills and depth of subject matter understanding. Over the years, I developed several proprietary tests that allow me to determine the level of candidates’ knowledge and the depth of their understanding of bookkeeping concepts. History suggests that those candidates that demonstrate a thorough understanding of bookkeeping at the fundamental level of debits and credits tend to do a substantially better‐quality bookkeeping and are quickly capable to take on more responsibilities. Observations also suggest that aspiring bookkeepers that enter the workforce are not ready to take on bookkeeping roles due to the lack of practical experience and most of the time small businesses can’t afford to dedicate resources to training of employees that lack basic practical experience. Thus, together with the BIZPREX team, we realized that the need to provide practical coaching materials to bookkeepers and small business owners is very critical and thus we produced YouTube videos of bookkeeping simulations and published these bookkeeping simulation workbooks. This workbook covers operations of a food truck operator that is registered as a Limited Liability Company and operates under the name DeCre Food Truck, LLC. It contains seventy‐two invoices, forty‐nine receipts, five return receipts, thirty‐six checks, forty‐seven deposits, twelve bank statements, and twelve credit cards statements that allow aspiring bookkeepers to get practical experience in processing receipts, invoices and completing reconciliations of bank accounts and credit card accounts. We also include chart of accounts, financial statements such as profit and loss and balance sheet to allow aspiring bookkeepers to check accuracy of their records. When all bookkeeping was done correctly the reports the aspiring bookkeepers would produce at the end of their simulation would match the reports in the workbook. This workbook allows aspiring bookkeepers to practice and test their skills on a duration of a complete year as it would in a real‐life experience.
