This is the fiftieth anniversary edition of acclaimed poet William Benton’s long poem that calls itself a novel. First published in 1975 by Noel Young in the Capra Chapbook Series, the book is a sui generis feat where transparencies of fiction come together at the threshold of poetry. The result is a refractive love story, tender as the night.
WILLIAM BENTON received his early training in music and worked as a jazz piano player before becoming a writer. His poetry has appeared in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and other magazines. He is the author of nine books of poetry, including Birds, Marmalade, and Backlit, as well as Exchanging Hats, a book on the paintings of Elizabeth Bishop, Eye Contact, and Madly, a novel. He lives in New York City
