Father Browne's Cork: Photographs, 1912-54 - 6138

Father Francis Browne S.J. was born in 1880 in Sunday's Well, Cork. He became interested in photography in his teens, and by the time of his death in 1960 had amassed over 42,000 negatives, all neatly filed, annotated and indexed. During his long career as a priest Father Browne travelled the globe, but returned to the city and county of his birth again and again, treating home to the discerning affection of his photographer's eye. In Father Browne's Cork: Photographs 1912-1954 are pictures whose history leaps out from the page: land and sea panoramas; depictions of urban and rural life; portraits of men, women and children at work and at play.
