Thank you to the AMAZING!!! Jillian Donnaé!!! for the outstanding cover art!!! You're an angel and more!!! The 112 poems in INK and SALT tell the story of it all as the ink explains the salt. The Poet in me screamed out when my younger brother and soulmate died. I was seventeen. I ink blotted my tears on chunks of wood, scraps of Styrofoam and bits of Tyvek while building houses. Trying to forget I was now building alone. Half of me was gone. Very dark days with sunny skies makes for a lonely life but rich poetry if we bother to write it down. The words in Ink and Salt were taken from jots off scraps. Thoughts on little pieces of paper on the back of humvees in desert Iraq and mountainous Afghanistan. From the waterproof notebook while training in the freezing cold everything in the beautiful spooky black forest of Germany. In bars and churches and half awaken thoughts in the middle of the night. Awaking from one nightmare to another while living for years in an abusive relationship and the joy that can come with the hope of tomorrow. Shattered letters churned into words. Ink and Salt captures the joy and tears. Bold with fears. Sad bathroom cries and happy dances on movie sets. At first I didn't see God through it all because I was taught by our specific church that God is a God of hate. He's not. I see that now. All my love to Jesus Christ who set the great example for us all and lives as our key into the eternal kingdom beyond. You can't believe in aliens and throw out the Bible with the bathwater. There's nothing new under the sun. Many people will argue the Bible without ever having read it. Ink and Salt covers having faith and losing it and finding it again. From one night stands ménage à trois(s) to single committed relationships. Veteran suicide and war, to the peaceful beauty of nature. It's the light and the dark and the inbetween. Life is a great school when we bother to learn. Everyone is a poet. We all have a great and wonderful story. Whatever your verse(s) be please write them down. For that and for reading mine I thank thee. Thank you, Yeshua HaMashiach!!!!
