Pedro Girls, a chronicle of the lives and times of three girls growing up in Southern California, comes to a close with my story, Kathleen. San Pedro has now entered the tumultuous second half of the Twentieth Century, and though none of us want to see the good old days come to an end, there won’t be much anyone can do to stop it. The trickle of explorers headed west eventually turned into a flood that no hand could turn aside, a relentless tide of humanity looking for the good life of Hollywood’s promise. That tide washed many natives away, myself included – a Pedro Girl no more.
