In Late and Soon, a time-travel novel set in the art scene of New York's East Village in the 1980s,Bar Mizrachi is an artist in his forties with a problem. Though dazzling at drawing -- he captures people's souls with a pencil, pen, and ink -- he's not making any money from his art. For years, he's been fixing flats for minimum wage in a downtown bike shop. Meanwhile his girlfriend wants him to get a real job so that they can raise kids on more than what little she makes as a public defender. Bar goes back in time to 1986, when he was nineteen and attending the Cooper Union School of Art, re-doing his life, becoming financially successful and "fixing" all sorts of wrongs. Then the ironies begin to ensue. He remembers the first time as he relives his old relationships but finds that even hindsight isn't necessarily enough to give him happiness.
