Lilith is the story of Mr. Vane, an orphan and heir to his family estate and fortune. The house has been in his family for centuries, but Mr. Vane finds it impossible to settle down. He becomes almost a prisoner of his library, where a mysterious librarian—“Mr. Raven”—appears and claims to have known not only Mr. Vane’s father but his ancestors before him. Mr. Vane is led by the librarian through an old mirror and into a "region of the seven dimensions" where he explores various hallucinatory manifestations of good and evil. Journeying through this strange land, Mr. Vane is caught up in a cosmic conflict and must reconcile his perceptions of reality with his new understandings.
