I read your ENTIRE book today. I could not put it down, it was so good. It brought back so many great memories of my childhood and the similar adventures that I had. What a great book, Peter. This is a collection of true (and entertaining) stories about a lucky ginger kid being in the right place at the right time. Every story should bring back a memory for every reader. The stories are very refreshing. The author has an obvious respect for his readers. He doesn't try to show off by seeing how many words he can use to describe an event. He has a direct story-telling style that clearly and efficiently describes what is happening, which helps hold the reader's interest throughout the entire book. The short stories are well-crafted and very entertaining. The book begins with the author as a seven year old with a Kool Aid stand that doesn't attract any customers and the creative and surprising way he solves that problem. It's a great start to a wonderful book. It moves on to an exciting story about how he and his young friend were nearly killed by a snowplow during a record snowfall. The author tells a great tale about being in "baseball heaven" as an eight year old, talking baseball with Pete Rose. His story about playing army in a jungle-like vacant lot brought back many fun childhood memories for me. He beautifully describes putting on puppet show productions with the neighborhood kids, fighting the school bully, watching his famous uncle paint masterpieces, serendipitous meetings with famous athletes and musicians and many more adventures. Two of his stories were quite frightening and I loved them. I will be telling them to my kids every Halloween as a family tradition. Peter's writing style is really good. He has a sense of humor but doesn't try to force his stories to be funny. I continued to admire his creativity to show how he created his own "luck". This book will be a hit with not only "Gingers" with red hair, but blondes, brunettes and all others too. As a runner, I thoroughly enjoyed "Running With Frank". Peter describes his experience of going out for the high school cross-country team without any running experience and I loved the story, ending with his getting to run with Olympic Champion Frank Shorter. Music enthusiasts will really enjoy his stories about his musical adventures which are really impressive, from hanging out with Harry Chapin to almost getting his "ass kicked by a famous rocker". I must say, while reading the stories, I felt like I was right there with the author. That is such a rare experience to have while reading a book and proves how good a writer he is and how great the stories are. It was a pleasure to read each story. I will read this book several times and have recommended it to my friends and family. In the preface, the author says that he hopes some of the stories will take the reader back to simpler times and bring back fun childhood memories. That is a definite "yes". Mission accomplished. I will be very surprised if this book is not a best-seller. Best book I have read in years.
