When I started writing down my son Patrick’s journey at birth it was for his baby book/scrapbook. When he acquired traumatic brain injury around 2 years of age this information became more then memoir, it became a purpose filled journey.You hold in your hand, the journey between a mother and her son who lives with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Patrick's story starts as a normal baby boy and continues to describing the 36 years up to the present. The life long story covers experiences coping with his "invisible" disability and other disabilities that developed as he grew through childhood, adolescents, and young adulthood.This book includes his struggles: self-identity, family and friend connections, medical and other issues. There is the development of a plan for education, and beyond school toward success in his life’s journey. How he daily finds his place in this world by maximizing his survival and increasing his successes. As we always say "peeling the onion, one layer at a time." Included in this book are suggestions to build your success stories. At the end of each story chapter, there are what I call Little Red Toolboxes, filled with a lifetime of resources and information. These resources come from various platforms such as family, medical, school and social experiences, that we implemented at each stages of his life, as his building blocks for success.My goal in writing this book is to share insights, beneficial information, and personal experiences to give hope to those who care for the disabled and faith to those who are living with disabilities.
