PRACTICAL GEOMETRIC PATTERN DESIGN: DECAGONAL PATTERNS IN PERSIAN TRADITIONAL ART - 6589

This is the second book in the series ‘Practical Geometric Pattern Design,’ published by Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing. We discuss here a group of Persian geometric patterns created on the geometry of regular decagons. This is the largest group of Persian designs. Patterns in this group cover a wide range from very simple ones to complex multilevel designs. The content presented here was taught at Istanbul Design Center in a few courses. The last one, conducted online, was taught in fall 2020. It was a thirty-hour course for a large international group of students. This book covers the foundations of Persian decagonal patterns: the gereh rules, selected styles of decagonal patterns, geometric foundations, and numerous examples. The book contains 33 drawing projects and constructions of more than 40 decagonal tessellations. All constructions discussed here can be done with traditional paper, pencil, compasses, and ruler technique, as well as with Geometer’s Sketchpad – a popular school geometry software.
