As you rapidly shop the aisles of Target, a quite familiar song begins to pipe in: the tune (none other than "Careless Whisper" by Wham!) takes you back to 1984 all over again and gives you a smile. The barista at Starbucks starts making your order, a skinny Mocha Latte. While checking your Facebook newsfeed, "Manic Monday" by Bangles begins to play in the coffee shop...making you forget that today marks the beginning of yet another stressful workweek. You're late for your hair appointment at the salon you've frequented since 1995. Before entering the busy building filled with hairdressers and their clients, you can hear Sade's silky voice singing "Smooth Operator" on the sidewalk, and you brush off the embarrassment of being tardy. In the following pages, an opinion is offered to which tunes from the 1980's have a tenacious legacy. Tenacious means "persisting in existence and not easily dispelled". And in a decade where legwarmers, the Rubix Cube, “Kate & Allie”, Pee Wee Herman, and “Back to the Future” all became pop fodder, the 1980’s had differing music artists too...such as Kenny Rogers, Joan Jett, Milli Vanilli, U2, Eurythmics, Lionel Richie, and David Bowie...who all shared radio airplay with each other.
