This is a collection of six short stories. The characters in each story find themselves boxed in by circumstances. They seek escape and redemption which create their own set of perils. The characters include a dying plant biologist who devotes his life to synthesizing the cells of ancient trees and humans (The Dendrologist), a ranch hand on the Sonoma coast who manages to escape a world of sheep, coyotes and fog when a friend invites him on a road trip to the East Coast (The Heliotrope), a 14 year old boy, bored with the risks and rewards of school, seeks a more useful life building housing for the homeless (Habitat), a son whose mother dies but not before bequeathing him the responsibility of maintaining the family album and legacy (Five Albums), a woman marooned on a body of water without oars or sail attempting to navigate her fears and preserve her memories (Sea of Cortez) and an insomniac who is suffering from long nights and a snoring husband and must rely on a sleep app to ease her night terrors but unfortunately spirals into something far worse (NIght Goblins).
