The Little Brute Family Catches a Feeling... - 5724

When we were growing up, my mother loved the story of the Little Brute Family by Russell Hoban. They ate sand and gravel porridge for breakfast and sticks and stones stew for supper. Then one day Baby Brute caught a little wandering lost good feeling and put it in his pocket. She copied the story down and then made her own little drawings to accompany it. She would tell us this story with her drawings, and we loved it so much, we thought it was hers. My mother brought that little good feeling to our home to ensure we wouldn't remain Brutes forever.
