Wright was the first novelist in America to earn a million dollars from his writing and was one of the most popular authors of his time. Many of his books were made into movies and this book was one of them. Filmed in 1924, The Mine with the Iron Door was a popular silent movie back when western movies were still in their infancy. “ Wright was a conservationist and with his urging and that of his fellow western writer Zane Grey, President Theodore Roosevelt established the Sonoran Desert National Park. Wright appreciated the beauty of the Sonoran Desert, and he bought 160 acres near Wilmot and Speedway where he built his house in the desert at a time Tucson only stretched east as far as Campbell Blvd. The Harold Bell Wright estate is now a subdivided neighborhood near Wilmot and Speedway with streets named after some of his books. There is Marta Hillgrove Drive, Natachee Avenue, Barbara Worth, Brian Kent and Shepherd of the Hills streets. This version of this public domain book The Mine with the Iron Door has been retyped and reformatted so it’s easy to read unlike scans of the original book. My own original copy of this book has been read and reread so many times it’s almost turned to dust. I uploaded it so I could have a printed copy for myself, friends and family but hopefully others will enjoy it as much as I have. The Mine with the Iron Door Redux-2024 is also available as an ebook.
