Honk! Honk! I could hear the children’s voices as they walked along my fence to school. With my gorgeous wings stretched out, I would rush to greet them. They laughed and talked to me. “Webster, Webster! We love you, Webster.” From my entrance into the world as a fuzzy green ball of down, to my years as a beautiful goose, it seemed my entire purpose in life was to make all kinds of people smile and feel happy. My story is layered, just like my feathers, with softness, strength, joy, sadness, and the life lessons of resilience, devotion, patience, and love for humans and creatures.Patricia Lieurance of Scottsdale, Arizona, authored the first part of the story of Webster. Her childhood friend, Gary Burson, of Arizona, illustrated the story for her with wonderful drawings. Keeping a full-grown goose began to have serious drawbacks and Webster was adopted by Anni and Vincent Beach of Chandler, Arizona. All of the early story and drawings were sent to Anni by Patricia when she and her husband Duke moved to LaJolla, California to live with their daughter and grandson. She asked that the story of Webster be completed and shared with children everywhere. The two couples became friends because of Webster and shared the sadness as each spouse took the final journey. Patricia made her transition at 89 years of age. Anni continues to live in Chandler and shepherd the Jam Pak Blues ‘N’ Grass Neighborhood Band and care for her animals.
