Art has the power to bring a community together in ways nothing else can; it’s an antidote to isolation, a means of giving voice to the marginalized, and a bridge between cultures. WomanKraft has been a part of Tucson’s rich cultural history since 1974, when a group of six determined women banded together to create space for women and other underrepresented artists. Still true to that vision of community based arts, the WomanKraft Gallery continues to support emerging artists; and the WomanKraft School of the Arts reaches out to make art accessible to seniors. What’s the secret to their longevity? The artists say it’s the potent cocktail of opportunity and community the group offers.
